Add these 12 breakfast ideas and themes to your men’s ministry! Each theme includes a conversation starter or activity, devotion, and option decoration ideas.

Breakfast is an easy gathering that works with any size group. Other great reasons to offer breakfast events:

  • It’s a great time to gather your men’s group together.
  • It’s important for our men to have opportunities for fellowship.
  • It’s a great place to encourage each other in our faith.
  • It’s an easy way to build relationships.

The breakfast hour is a good time of day because it leaves plenty of time left in the day for getting other jobs done. Breakfast is a casual meeting with a welcoming feel that makes newcomers comfortable, and it involves BACON. Who doesn’t like bacon?

Simple decorations add to the theme of the day. This adds fun and stimulates conversation around the tables.

“Food’s Brown, Hot, & Plenty Of It”

All the things served at our breakfasts are made by men, for men (and yes, we do consider allergies and other issues). To quote ‘Cookie’, the chuck wagon cook from City Slickers, “You ain’t gonna get any nouveau, amandine, thin crust, bottled water, sauteed city food. Food’s brown, hot, and plenty of it.”

Simple Breakfast Menu For Each Gathering

  • Scrambled eggs
  • Sausage gravy and biscuits
  • Fried potatoes
  • Meat (bacon, ham, sausage, venison)

Make some little-known facts in baseball history cards and place them on the tables or use a baseball trivia calendar.

Baseball Theme Table Decorations Ideas

Depending on where you live, use the colors or memorabilia of the teams that are supported there. Use tablecloths and provide packs of sunflower seeds and bubble gum on the tables for guys to take.

5. May: Fishing Season

Fishing Stories Conversation Starter

Give your guys a chance to share about their catch or the one that got away!

Small hand tools, measuring tape, duct tape, etc.

7. July: First Car Memories

First Car Conversation Starter

Everyone shares their memories of their first car.

Car Theme Event Devotion Focus

Your first car was a symbol of freedom and growth. You were free from the constraints of being a rider only. Just like your first car, when we come to know the Lord, we are free from the constraints of sin, and life in Jesus gives us the freedom to grow in our relationship with Him. (John 8:36, Romans 8:2)

Car Themes Breakfast Table Decoration Ideas

Lay out lots of matchbox-type cars on the tables and use checkered flags and orange cones. Print some pictures of classic muscle cars and put them in inexpensive frames.

8. August: The Dog Days Of Summer

Men’s Summer Event Conversation Starter

Best-Worst game: Ask everyone to share about the best dog they ever had or met and the worst dog experience they ever had.

Dog Days Of Summer Devotion Focus

Dog Days of summer refer to the time of the year when we get worn out and tired from the heat and pace of schedules, etc. It’s important in our faith journey not to let the “dog days” of life wear us down and push us away from our time spent with God and in His house with our church family. (Galatians 6:9)

Dog Table Decorations Ideas

Use paw print tablecloths, put new dog dishes on the table and fill them with Scooby Snacks.

9. September: What’s Your Job?

Labor Day Event Conversation Starter

What was your first paid job?

Men’s Career Devotion Focus

God has given each of us unique skills and gifts to use in our jobs, just like He has given us all unique gifts for the work of His kingdom. We need all the laborers to make our society function from farmers to presidents, just like we need all parts of the body to work together to function as the church body. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27)

Labor Day Breakfast Table Decoration Ideas

Print pictures of cartoon images of different jobs: carpenters, teachers, doctors, bus drivers, etc. Put out jars of nails, screws, rolls of duct tape, and carpenter pencils.

10. October: Harvest Time

Conversation Starter

What was your favorite all-time Halloween costume you wore? (If you didn’t celebrate Halloween growing up, how would you dress up for a costume party next spring?)

Harvest Time Devotion Focus

The “harvest is plenty but the workers are few.” God calls us to reach out into this world to share the Gospel and support those workers on the field. If you have a missionary you support, perhaps you could share a newsletter or do a Skype interview with them. (Luke 10:2)

Autumn Table Decoration Ideas

Decorate with baskets with corn, gourds, pumpkins, fall decor stuff, scarecrows, and autumn leaves.

11. November: Hunting Season

Hunting Breakfast Conversation Starter

Give awards (just candy bars or simple things) for:

  • Hunting trip that happened furthest from here
  • Biggest game caught
  • Most times you went hunting and missed your mark
  • Longest ever sat in a tree stand

Men’s Hunting Event Devotion Focus

Just like you choose your target to hunt, God has chosen us to bring us into His fold. He has ‘stalked’ us out, hunted us down, and brought His love into our lives to rescue us. Unlike the hunter who shoots to kill, God shoots to save! (John 15:16 Jesus said, You haven’t chosen me, but I have chosen you!)

Use camouflage tablecloths, empty shotgun shells, and hunting centerpieces.
