Ready for some holiday fun with the women’s ministry in your church! The Christmas season will be here before you know it, or maybe it snuck up on you and you’re looking for Christmas activities. How about a night of Christmas carols, jingle bells, candy canes mixed together with fun and games that will allow your women to connect, laugh, and leave wanting more. 

What other holiday do you redecorate your house, send cards to everyone you know, buy too many gifts, and the list goes on? It’s exhausting, but a night with other women having a good time? Now that’s a good idea! This is the time to bring all your group members together, especially new members, for some fun activities. Let’s have a good time with one of these low-to-minimal cost game ideas.

13 Fun Women’s Ministry Christmas Games

1. Pass The Baby

Materials Needed:

  • Baby doll wrapped in a blanket (may need several, depending on how many members attend). 
  • Craft babies can be used instead of real dolls if necessary.

This game can be played with two people or within a small group. Give each pair or small group a baby doll (or two). Then read a story using words to the left and to the right. Whenever the words left or right are spoken, pass the baby in that direction. You can use the example or write an original story using the words left and right that fit your theme or some other subject for your Women’s ministry.

On a snow day, it was blowing to the left like crazy, then all of a sudden it stopped and all that was left was gleaming white snow, which left me excited to go outside and play. Everyone else was outside. I didn’t want to get left behind, so I quickly put on my snow suit, left foot, right foot, left arm, right arm, then zipped it right to the top.

I ran out at just the right time to make a snow angel. I laid down in the snow in just the right spot using my left and right legs, and my left and right arms, moving them up and down, back and forth. There it was, right there, an angel.

Then I jumped right up and ran right over to my friend and said, “Come look at my just right angel.” I was so excited I left my friend behind to return to my just-right angel. I looked to the left then to my right, looking all around, my just right angel was gone, right down to the very ground, that’s all that was left. The sun had beat down at the just right place at the just right time, and all that was left was mud. Tears ran down the right side of my face, then I turned and left, going back to my just right house.

2. What’s The Recipe?

Materials Needed:

Pick a group member leader from the small group. Everyone think of a favorite Christmas recipe. Discuss! Then select one ingredient from every group member’s recipe to make an original recipe. The group leader will write down all the ingredients. Now decide on a name for your recipe.

3. Who Am I?

Materials Needed:

  • List of questions. 
  • Pen or pencil.

Read a question, giving them 10-15 seconds to answer. If you want to give more time, you can. Also, add or take away from these questions.

Here is a list of questions about the Christmas story:

  • Who do we celebrate at Christmas?
  • Who told the mother she had favor with God?
  • Who was the child’s mother?
  • Who was the child’s Father?
  • Who did the mother tell about what was told to her about the baby?
  • Who is the cousin of this child?
  • Who were the first people to see this child?
  • Who wanted to kill the child, so the family fled to Egypt?
  • Who was waiting in the temple to see the child?
  • Who saw a star and followed it to see the child ?
  • Bonus: Who will benefit from the child’s birth?

4. Christmas Story Box

Materials Needed:

Each group member will receive one of these items. As you read the Christmas Story, you will land on a word that represents each one of the items. 

  • Jesus = baby
  • Star = wisemen
  • Candy cane = shepherd,
  • Straw = manger. 

Add to the list if you see different words in the story. When the person hears the word, they stand up and sit back down. This can also turn into a craft project where each group member makes a box with these items in it. They can use the box to tell the story!

5. Decorate The Tree 

Materials Needed:

In small groups, give 15 minutes for them to decorate a Christmas tree. All they can use are items from their purse. Select three women to be the judges. They will be judged on a scale of 1-5 for: colorfulness, uniqueness, fullness, theme, tree topper, and overall beauty.

6. Walker Races

Materials Needed:

  • Three walkers
  • A place to race down and back.

Split the group members into teams, use at least three walkers or more if necessary. Have a starting point and an end. Each team member must walk with the walker. The first person in the group walks the walker to a destination, then turns around and returns to the starting line, passing the walker to the next team member. Then they continue until the last member finishes. The team that finishes first wins.

7. Christmas Memory

Materials Needed:

  • Paper
  • Pen or pencil.

What would be the title of your favorite Christmas memory? Now take the title from every group member and make a story out of all the titles. Have someone read the story to the group. Don’t tell the women what they have to do in order to complete the games at first. Just ask them to give a title to their favorite Christmas memory, and let the fun begin!

8. Christmas Stuff

Materials Needed:

  • Stocking
  • Christmas items, i.e., jingle bells, stuffed toy, small doll, car/truck, ball, candy cane, Christmas ornament, angel, and item from a manger, the ideas are endless. 
  • A timer

Put ten items in a stocking for every small group. The winner can be a small group or a small group member. Each small group passes the stocking around. Each group member has 15 seconds to feel around in the stocking, then 15 seconds to write down what they think is in it, and pass it to the next group member. The correct items can be counted from each group member as a total or the one group member that has the most correct. If group members tie, put their name in a basket and draw one out, or as many as there are gifts. There are also phone applications that you can use to break a tie.

9. Wrap A Present

Materials Needed:

  • Wrapping paper
  • Ribbon
  • Tape
  • Scissors.

As a small group, one group member is the gift, the rest of the group members are going to wrap the person using the wrapping paper, then make a bow out of ribbon. The person has to be completely wrapped with a bow. The small group that finishes first wins!

10. Pin The Bow

Materials Needed:

Cut a large piece of wrapping paper and put it on the wall. Each group member wears a blind fold then walks towards the wall to put the bow on the wrapping paper. The one that gets the closest wins. It can also be a team game, and the team that has the closest bows wins!

11. Reindeer Games

Materials Needed:

  • Obstacle course: Reindeer (reindeer, snow man, small undecorated Christmas tree), hula hoop, balls (soft balls or fake snow balls), golf ball, wrapping paper tube, bucket, cones, painters tape, paper, and pencil.

This is a fun way to have an active game that will work for women of varying ages. Set up two identical stations on each side of the room and divide the women into two teams or more if necessary. One group member starts and completes the obstacle course, returns to the starting line, and then tags the next person to start. 

Here are some suggested stations! 

  • Using a large object, have the group member throw a hula hoop over that item.
  • Using a wrapping paper tube, have the group member hit a ball into a circle on the floor.
  • Using small soft balls or fake snow balls, throw three of them into a bucket.
  • Using painters tape, make a line with twists and turns for them to walk through, or use cones for them to go in and out of. They then turn and walk fast back to tag the next person in line. 

You can give points for each task completed successfully!

12. Christmas Minute

Materials Needed:

  • Paper
  • Pen or pencil

How many Christmas songs can your group members list in one minute? Once everyone writes down as many song titles as they can in a minute, have people share their titles with the group. Cross off any duplicates. How many songs does your team have? The team with the most titles at the end wins!

13. Act It Out

Materials Needed:

All group members in a team write down an occupation, song, play, TV show, or movie. Put them all in a Christmas stocking, stocking cap, box, or whatever container is available. Mix up group members into new teams (how many depends on the number of members attending). Select a paper from the container, then they act out the item in a similar way to charades. Each team gets one minute to guess then it has to go to the other team to guess. Most points win. You could also have the group member who wrote that particular statement down be recognized, so everyone gets to know them!

Women enjoy an opportunity to share experiences and laugh. As a women’s leader, you want them to connect and get to know each other so that when they attend Bible studies and church service, it allows for an easy, comfortable feeling of knowing someone else. These fun activities are filled with Christmas themes that will fill your women’s ministry with a time of joy. 

Just like a present has a surprise inside and is normally beautifully wrapped on the outside, adorned with a bow or other decoration, women’s ministry wants to provide the opportunity for women to walk away feeling as if they received that beautiful gift as they open the door to the event, excited for what’s inside.
